September/October on desert lakes translates to an all-out search for shad. This time of year the bass school up and begin herding baitfish. If you find shad, you will find largemouths somewhere nearby. In order to cover the water, find the fish and still be versatile enough to fish any type of cover without having to change lures, my bait of choice is a spinnerbait. Saguaro Lake is at an elevation of 1,600 feet in the Tonto National Forest.

The lake has 1,195 surface acres, 33 miles of easily accessible shoreline, a maximum depth of 80 feet and is last lake in the Slat River Chain.
